Where Locals Save on Gas & Groceries

[00:00:00] Okay. Today, we are going on a little trip because today is Tuesday, and it's double points day at the Chevron gas station. So if you're interested in the community and learning about savings, which, you know, when you're retired, many of us are on... Well, not myself, 'cause I'm still working, but you know, when you retire, you have to really look at your budget and say, "I've got, I've got my house, and I paid cash for it 'cause I sold my house back in the Midwest.

But I still have to feed myself, pay utilities, pay insurance, pay for my car," you know, all those things. And groceries and gas are two things that can really add up in a month So today, because I am a Safeway shopper, I get points on my Safeway [00:01:00] card, which is connected to my phone number, and I have my Chevron app on my phone.

I get points for shopping at Safeway, and just FYI, the first Wednesday of every month is senior day, so anybody that's, I believe, 50 and older, could be 55 and older, gets 10% off their full purchase. So whatever you're buying, try to buy a lot on that one day of the month, and then you also wanna shop all the specials they have on the weekends because you get points that you can then go to Chevron and buy gas.

And today is Tuesday, and I need gas. I intentionally did not get a lot of gas over the weekend even though my tank was pretty low because I'm like, "I don't have to drive anywhere and use up all... I don't wanna pay full price." [00:02:00] So today, just in general, you get 5 cents off a gallon or you get 5 cents towards, you know, whatever.

So that's 50 cents. Well, today, I get double that. So I get 10 cents per gallon, and I already have 50 cents off per gallon waiting for me, and next time I go gas up, because I'm going today, and I'm gonna get at least 10 gallons of gas, I am going to literally get a dollar off a gallon. Pretty awesome. And you have to use it all.

You can't use part of it. You have to use all of it. So think about that when you're going to get gas because be sure you're on empty. And I'm also going early in the morning because it's hot here, and when it's hot, little tips, gas fumes rise and take up more space in your gas tank so you actually get less gas when you pump.

So today, I'm going early. It's 8:30. It's already 86 degrees here, so it's not as cool [00:03:00] as I would have liked, but- Just little tips for you to know living in Arizona, things that, you know, when you come from some place and you know all the discount places and you know all the specials, I like to be what I call fiscally responsible, and I love a good deal.

I grew up on a farm. Yes, I'm a farmer's daughter. And, you know, you always had to be fiscally responsible and sometimes really frugal because it just depended on the market. You know, we went from dairy to beef and pork to crop farming. So we've done it all. I grew up experiencing all of it. And, you know, I, in today's economy, I'm using all the skills that I learned as a young person growing up on a farm how to make every dollar stretch.

So I'm sharing one of those tips with you.
